Description: This qualification is aimed those looking to undertake the role of a first aider in the workplace, as outlined in the Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

First Aid at Work Course:

First Aid at Work course is an intensive 18 hour course that is delivered over 3 days and this course will give your  first aid at work staff members essential life saving skills such as how to successfully manage an unconscious casualty safely and competently, also how to give lifesaving resuscitation to a casualty that has stopped breathing and how to use a defibrillator safely and competently too.

The staff member will also learn how best to treat anaphylactic shockasthma attacks, wounds, bleeding, head injuries, spinal injuries, and many more conditions too.

Regulated Qualifications:

A regulated qualification is a qualification that is provided through an ‘Awarding Organisation’ that is recognised and regulated by a UK regulator such as Ofqual in England.

Many business owners are now leaning towards a ‘Regulated Qualification’ rather than an ‘In House’ qualification as the certification for a regulated qualification demonstrates that the learner has attended a qualification approved by a UK regulator and accredited by an ‘Awarding Organisation’.

First Aid aid at Work course syllabus includes:

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration:

18 guided learning hours (3 days) with an additional 4 hours self learning.

Course Tests:

Practical observations during your training days and a final multi-choice question paper at the end of your course.

Course Qualification:

Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual approved QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the date of the course, you will receive an A4 size certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.


This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
