Description: This qualification is for those undertaking the role of a workplace first aider, but will also be working on forestry commission land. The QNUK Level 3 Award in First aid at Work +F (RQF) has been developed to meet the Forestry Commission First aid requirements, and the first aid requirements under the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. (NI 1982)

First Aid at Work + F

First Aid at Work + F is an ideal first aid course for those who work in high-risk/hazardous workplaces on Forestry Commission land. In roles such as tree surgeons, estate workers, civil engineers, forestry workers, etc.

This first aid course is the First Aid at Work syllabus plus the Forestry Commission syllabus making it ideal for those who work on Forestry Commission land.

First Aid at Work + F is accredited by Qualifications Network UK and regulated by OFQUAL the governmental regulator for qualifications in England.

First Aid at Work + F Learning Outcomes

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Forestry Commission syllabus elements include:

  • Catastrophic bleed dressings.
  • Tourniquets.
  • Lime disease.
  • Crush injuries.
  • Suspension trauma.
  • Hot & Cold.

Course Duration

21 guided learning hours (3 days)

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (32 out of 45)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work +F (RQF) qualification.

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course,

Each learner will receive;

  • An OFQUAL-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work + F (RQF)certificate (PDF certificate)

If you require a paper certificate in addition to a PDF certificate then there is a £1 + VAT fee per certificate. This can be requested at the time of booking.

Course Pre-requisites

This First Aid at Work + F qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider.

Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon as a sole first aiders.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Learners will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
