Course Specification: Qualification number: 603/2464/8 Description: This qualification is for those undertaking the role of a workplace first aider but will also be working on forestry commission land.

The QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work +F (RQF) has been developed to meet the Forestry Commission First aid requirements and the first aid requirements under the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. (NI 1982)

First Aid at Work + F Learning Outcomes

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in relation to:

  • Preventing Cross-infection
  • The importance of recording incidents and actions.
  • Utilising the available equipment.
  • Evaluate the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, quickly, and effectively in an emergency.

Be able to administer first aid to a casualty that:

  • is unresponsive but breathes normally.
  • is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Is injured and bleeding.
  • has external bleeding.
  • is experiencing medical shock.
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Forestry Commission syllabus elements include:

  • Catastrophic bleed dressings.
  • Tourniquets.
  • Lime disease.
  • Crush injuries.
  • Suspension trauma.
  • Hot & Cold.

Course Duration

21 guided learning hours (3 days)

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (32 out of 45)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work+F (RQF) qualification.

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Each learner will receive:

  • An OFQUAL-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work + F (RQF) certificate.
  • An OFQUAL-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work + F (RQF) pdf certificate.
  • QNUK plastic qualification card for a wallet or purse.

Course Pre-requisites

People over the age of 16 who can perform the duties of a workplace emergency first aider are eligible for this First Aid at Work + F qualification.

Learners between the ages of 14 and 16 can pursue the qualification, but they shouldn’t serve as the only first aiders.

Candidates should have at least Level 2 literacy and numeracy skills, or the equivalent.

The students must demonstrate workplace first-aid procedures.

This includes being physically capable of performing CPR on a casualty on the floor.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
