Description: This Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification provides the knowledge and skills for first aiders working in early years environments.

Learners will gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding of emergency paediatric first aid as outlined by the Department of Education, on September 2021.

This is a qualification that indicates an individual can undertake a specific role in the workplace and that may be relied upon by employers.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Emergency Paediatric First Aid is an ideal first aid course that has been specifically designed to meet the current EYFS requirement guidelines. This will enable you the learner to learn and gain the skills, knowledge,  and confidence to give high-quality CPR to a non-breathing casualty and how to use a Defibrillator  (AED) safely and confidently in a first aid emergency.

You will also learn in this Emergency Paediatric First Aid course how to treat minor bleeds, wounds, burns, scalds, insect bites and stings. You will also be able to provide high-quality treatment to a choking casualty, a casualty who is having a seizure, or a casualty in medical shock.

Emergency  Paediatric First Aid course is regulated by OFQUAL (England’s governmental regulator) is accredited by Qualifications Network UK  and meets UK Resuscitation Council guidelines and requirements.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency Paediatric First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid for an Infant or Child who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is suffering from bites, stings, and minor injuries (splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising)

Course Duration

6 guided learning hours (1day).

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (11 out of 15)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Learners will receive;

  • An Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) certificate. (PDF certificate)

If you require a paper certificate in addition to a PDF certificate then there is a £10 + vat fee per certificate. This can be requested at the time of booking.

Course Pre-requisites

It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

This qualification is for those over 16 years of age.

Candidates should be physically capable of providing first aid, such as CPR to a casualty on the floor.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) would be a good choice.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
