This Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification equips first aiders working in early years environments with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Learners will gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding of emergency paediatric first aid as outlined by the Department of Education, on September 2023.

Employers may rely on this qualification as proof that a person is capable of performing a particular role in the workplace.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Emergency Paediatric First Aid is an amazing first aid training that is specifically created to fulfil the latest EYFS guidelines. It will equip you, the student, with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to execute high-quality CPR on a non-breathing casualty and safely and confidently use an AED (defibrillator) in an emergency.

In addition, you will learn how to treat minor cuts, burns, scalds, insect bites, and stingers. You will also be able to help someone who is choking, having a seizure, or in medical shock.

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course adheres to Resuscitation Council UK principles and standards and is accredited by Qualifications Network UK. This course is overseen by OFQUAL, England’s government regulator of regulated qualifications.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency Paediatric First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid for an Infant or Child who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is suffering from bites, stings, and minor injuries (splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising)

Course Duration

6 guided learning hours (1day).

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (11 out of 15)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Learners will receive:

  • An Ofqual-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) certificate.
  • An Ofqual-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) pdf certificate.
  • QNUK plastic qualification card for a wallet or purse.

Course Pre-requisites

It is recommended that learners have at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy skills, or equivalent.

This qualification is for people over the age of 16.

Candidates should be physically capable of providing first aid, such as CPR, to a casualty on the floor.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) would be a good choice.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
