Emergency First Aid at Work

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is highly favoured by employers and business owners because it equips first aiders with essential knowledge and skills to manage low-risk situations effectively.

In this course, you will learn how to perform high-quality CPR on an unconscious, non-breathing individual and understand how to safely and effectively use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

In addition to these vital skills, you will also gain expertise in treating minor wounds.

You will learn how to manage minor bleeding and effectively treat burns and scalds.

Furthermore, the course will teach you how to assist individuals who are choking, experiencing seizures, or suffering from medical shock.

This course is regulated by OFQUAL and accredited by Qualifications Network UK, ensuring that the training meets high standards of quality and professionalism.

Emergency First Aid at Work Learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • has splinters,
  • has cuts, grazes, and bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure

Course Pre-requisites

The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification equips individuals aged 16 and above with the skills necessary to act as workplace first aiders in emergencies.

Learners aged 14-16 can also pursue this qualification; however, employers should not rely on them primarily to provide emergency first aid.

Candidates should have at least Level 2 literacy and numeracy skills, or equivalent proficiency.

Participants will need to demonstrate first aid procedures in realistic scenarios. For instance, this includes performing CPR on a manikin lying on the floor and ensuring they are physically able to do so.

In summary, the course aims to equip individuals with the practical skills required for emergencies.

Ultimately, this training prepares them to respond effectively when needed.

Course Duration

6 tutor-guided learning hours. (1 day)

Course Tests

Multiple-choice question paper.

  • A minimum of 70% required to pass this part of the course (11 out of 15)

Practical Observations.

  • Learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment.
  • A 100% pass mark is required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions, i.e., learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer with one another during the examination.

No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who complete all practical elements of the course and pass the final multiple-choice exam, consisting of 15 questions, will receive;

  • QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) Paper certificate.
  • QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) PDF certificate.
  • QNUK qualifications card for a wallet or purse.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking to progress further in first aid, the QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) would be a good step.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Learners should be aware that the qualification can be delivered in other countries, but the content was developed based on current UK practice.
