Description: This qualification is aimed at those looking to undertake the role of an Emergency first aider in the workplace, as outlined in the Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

This qualification has the purpose of supporting a role in the workplace.

Emergency First Aid at Work is an ideal first aid course for LOW risk workplaces such as small offices, small shops, small cafes etc, Emergency First Aid at Work course is delivered over 1 day on your site, with 6 guided learning hours with the course trainer and an additional 1 hour self-learning time.

This intensive 6 hours (1 day) Emergency First Aid at work course is designed to equip your emergency first aid staff member with essential lifesaving skills such as how to successfully manage an unconscious casualty safely and competently and learning best practice on how to give essential lifesaving resuscitation to a casualty if they have stopped breathing and how to use an AED (defibrillator) safely and competently,  during the staff members training day with us they will also learn how best to treat burns, scolds, shock, minor wounds, bleeding and so much more in this intensive 6 hours emergency first aid at work course.

This Emergency First Aid at Work course is recognised and regulated by Ofqual and meets guidelines set out by HSE and UK Resuscitation Council we are also an approved training centre with Qualifications Network one of the larger awarding organisations for health & safety and first aid qualifications in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Regulated Qualifications:

A regulated qualification is a qualification that is provided through an ‘Awarding Organisation’ that is recognised and regulated by a UK regulator such as Ofqual in England.

Many business owners are now leaning towards a ‘Regulated Qualification’ rather than an ‘In House’ qualification as the certification for a regulated qualification demonstrates that the learner has attended a qualification approved by a UK regulator and accredited by an ‘Awarding Organisation’.

Emergency First Aid at Work course syllabus includes:

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • has splinters,
  • has cuts, grazes, and bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure

Course Duration:

6 guided learning hours (1day) with an additional 1 hour self learning.

Course Tests:

Practical observations during your training day and a final multi-choice question paper at the end of your course.

Course Qualification:

Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual approved QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the date of the course, you will receive an A4 size certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.


This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
