Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is the choice of many employers to ensure they are meeting the minimum requirements of the Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Emergency first aid at work is a popular choice with many employers who have colleagues working within a LOW risk/hazard workplace. This is an ideal first aid course that meets the employer’s first aid needs and requirements by HSE (first aid) guidelines and Resuscitation Council UK resuscitation guidelines.

This emergency first aid course will teach your colleagues how to give lifesaving CPR to a casualty who is not breathing how to use a defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently and also how to monitor a casualty till the emergency services arrive on scene.

Your colleagues will also gain the knowledge and skills to be able to treat minor burns, scalds, wounds, and minor bleeds, and will be able to provide effective treatment to a casualty who may be choking, having a seizure, or in medical shock.

This course is OFQUAL-regulated (England’s governmental regulator) and is accredited by Qualifications Network UK  This qualification is nationally accepted and recognised throughout the UK.

Emergency First Aid at Work Learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • has splinters,
  • has cuts, grazes, and bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure

Course Duration

6 guided learning hours (1day).

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (11 out of 15)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions; i.e. students will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course,

Each learner will receive;

  • An OFQUAL-regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)certificate. (PDF certificate)

If you require a paper certificate in addition to a PDF certificate then there is a £1 + VAT fee per certificate. This can be requested at the time of booking.

Course Pre-requisites

This Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider.

Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Learners will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) would be a good step.

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
