The QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) has been developed in conjunction with other AOs and supports employers to meet their requirements under Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

First Aid at Work Re-qualification

First Aid at Work Re-Qualification is an ideal first aid course if you wish to re-qualify before the expiry of your current first aid at work qualification.

For this first aid at work re-qualification course, your current first aid work qualification must be accredited by an awarding organisation and also must be in date, or expired no more than 30 days on the first day of your course to qualify for this course.

This first aid at work re-qualification course is regulated by OFQUAL and accredited by Qualifications Network UK, meets current HSE (first aid) and Resuscitation Council UK guidelines and requirements, and is nationally recognised and widely accepted throughout the UK.

First Aid at Work Re-qualification

First Aid at Work re-qualification course is a 2-day intensive first aid at work course. This re-qualification course is delivered at a much faster pace because you the first aider have already got the knowledge but need refreshing and updating your knowledge base.

You will revisit how to give high-quality CPR to an unconscious and non-breathing casualty and how to use a Defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently. You will also get reacquainted with the treatment of minor bleeds and wounds, minor burns, and scalds, and learn how to provide treatment to a casualty who is choking, suffering medical shock, having a seizure, suffering from anaphylaxis, having an asthma attack, suffering from a heart attack or angina, SCA (sudden cardiac arrest), having a stroke, having a diabetic episode, been poisoned, has been crushed, or drowned.

You will also revisit how to manage conditions such as a casualty suffering from anaphylactic shock, seizures, asthma, heart attacks, angina, SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) strokes, diabetes, severe choking, poisoning, drowning, and crushing injuries. Also, revisiting how to provide effective treatment and safely manage a casualty who has sustained a neck injury, head injury, spinal injury, or has sustained broken bones, dislocation, ligament injury, or soft tissue injury.

First Aid aid at Work re-qualification learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration

12 guided learning hours (2 days).

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final 40 questions multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual approved QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Each successful learner will receive;

  • An Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate. (PDF certificate)

If you require a paper certificate in addition to a PDF certificate then there is a £1 + vat fee per certificate. This can be requested at the time of booking.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 years of age who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be sole first aiders.

It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Learners will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor and, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
