First Aid at Work Course

First Aid at Work course is the ideal first aid course for the HIGH risk of injury/hazard workplaces such as engineering workshops, machinery workshops, and construction.

This first aid at work course is also ideal if your business is open to the general public and has a high footfall or you have a high number of staff colleagues on the site but a much lower risk of injury workplace.

First aid at work qualification is OFQUAL regulated and Qualifications Network UK accredited and is mapped to current HSE (first aid) and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines. This qualification is nationally recognised and widely accepted throughout the UK.

First Aid at Work Course

First Aid at Work course is a 3-day (18 hours) first aid course covering a wide range of topics, conditions, and ailments a first aider in the workplace may encounter in a typical workplace setting.

This first aid at work course will give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be able to give high-quality CPR to an unconscious and non-breathing casualty, use a Defibrillator  (AED) safely and confidently, and be able to safely manage an unconscious but breathing casualty and monitor the casualty till the emergency services arrive on the scene.

First aid at work course will also give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be able to give treatment to a wide range of ailments and conditions such as treating minor burns, scalds, bleeds, and wounds, or providing lifesaving treatment to a casualty who is choking, having a seizure, has been poisoned, or is in medical shock, suffering from SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) anaphylactic shock, diabetic shock, asthma attack, drowning, crushing, and so much more in this intensive first aid at work course.

The First Aid at Work course has had a lot of collaboration with industry and other Awarding Organisations to design a first aid course that is a perfect fit for the higher-risk injury workplace.



First Aid aid at Work course learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration

18 guided learning hours (3 days).

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions; i.e. learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and then pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) 

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Each successful delegate will receive;

  • An Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate. (PDF certificate)

If you require a paper certificate in addition to a PDF certificate then there is a £1 + vat fee per certificate. This can be requested at the time of booking.

Course Pre-requisites

This first aid at work qualification is aimed at those over 16 who can undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be sole first aiders.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language to understand the assessment and undertake the recommended assessment methods.

It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Learners will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
