First Aid Annual Refresher

HSE (first aid) strongly urges workplace first aiders to receive refresher training every 12 to 24 months to keep their skills up to date, especially if first aid treatments have changed since their last first aid qualification evaluation.

However, the law only recommends this form of training and does not mandate it.

There is no better way to brush up on your first aid skills than with an annual refresher course.

If our learners require a refresher on further first aid procedures, such as how to use a tourniquet or dress and treat a severe wound, we supply it.

We review the essential course subjects and set aside extra time for learners who want to refresh skills they learnt but did not cover in the brief refresher session.

We provide the syllabus for the first aid (annual refresher) course below.

First Aid (Annual) Refresher

First Aid Annual Refresher Learning Outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a seizure

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace first aider.

Learners aged 14 to 16 can take the qualification, but employers shouldn’t rely on them as the only first aiders.

Learners will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor and, therefore, physically able to do so.

Course Duration

3 guided learning hours (1/2 day).

Course Tests

Practical assessments throughout the course.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully complete the course’s practical assessments will receive the following award:

  • QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid Annual Refresher (RQF) certificate
  • QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid Annual Refresher (RQF) PDF certificate
  • QNUK qualification card for a wallet or purse.

This is valid for 1 year from the assessment date.

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The qualification can be delivered in other countries; however, learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
