The Paediatric First Aid course in Rugby teaches you the skills and knowledge you need to handle emergencies with children and infants.
In this paediatric first aid course in Rugby, you will build your skills and knowledge to give safe, effective treatment during emergencies involving children.
You will learn how to perform CPR effectively and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently.
Additionally, gaining essential skills to help and treat children with conditions like asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, and poisoning.
You will learn how to treat minor burns, scalds, bleeding, soft-tissue injuries, insect bites, and other common issues.
Paediatric First Aid Course (Rugby) Learning Outcomes:
Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider in reference to:
- Preventing cross-infection
- Importance of recording incidents and actions
- Using available equipment
- Assessing the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency
Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child who:
- is unresponsive but breathing normally
- is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
- is choking
- has external bleeding
- is suffering from medical shock
- has injuries to the head, neck, or back
- is suffering from bites, stings, and minor injuries (splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising)
- has a suspected fracture
- has a foreign body in the eyes, ear, or nose
- has minor burns or scalds
- is having a seizure
- has had an electric shock
- has sudden poisoning
- is suffering from anaphylactic shock
- has diabetes
- has asthma
- has meningitis
- has allergic reactions
- has febrile convulsions
Course prerequisites:
We recommend that learners have at least Level 1 literacy and numeracy skills, or equivalent.
Anyone aged 14 or older can take this qualification.
You will need to demonstrate first-aid procedures as you would in a real workplace, including performing CPR on a manikin lying on the floor, so you should be physically able to do so.
Course Tests:
Multiple-choice question paper.
- You need at least 70% (28 out of 40) to pass this part of the course.
Practical Observations.
- You must be able to perform the required practical tasks on the floor during the final assessment.
- You must achieve a 100% pass mark for this part.
Course Qualification:
You will receive your award after you complete all the practical parts of the paediatric first aid course and pass the final multiple-choice test.
- QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid at Work (RQF) (paper certificate)
- QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid at Work (RQF) (PDF certificate)
- QNUL qualification card for a wallet or purse.
Your qualification will be valid for 3 years from the date you pass the assessment.
