Description: This qualification is intended for those working with individuals who have been diagnosed with anaphylaxis and where medication may need to be administered.

Many attendees work in environments that support children at risk of severe allergic reactions, such as nurseries and other early years settings.

Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions

This course equips childminders and preschool teachers with the skills to administer an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) during an anaphylactic reaction.

Enrol in the Short Course on Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions to gain this vital knowledge.

In addition, you will learn how to use a defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a child or infant who has stopped breathing, and how to handle common issues such as expired pads or low batteries in an AED.

Before handing a child or infant over to emergency services, you will also learn how to place them in the recovery position.

The Qualifications Network UK has accredited this qualification, OFQUAL has regulated it, and it meets all Resuscitation Council UK current guidelines.

Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions Learning outcomes;

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally.
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally.
  • is having a severe allergic reaction.

Be able to:

  • safely use an adrenaline auto-injector
  • place a casualty into the recovery position.
  • monitor their casualties.
  • give a handover to emergency services.

Course Pre-requisites

Learners must be at least 16 years old to pursue this qualification.

The learner must demonstrate workplace first-aid procedures.

This includes performing CPR on a casualty who is on the floor and therefore physically able to do so.

There are no other requirements for this qualification.

Course Duration

3 guided learning hours (1/2 day)

Course Tests

Multiple-choice question paper.

  • A minimum of 70% required to pass this part of the course (4 out of 6)

Practical Observations.

  • Learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment.
  • A 100% pass mark is required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions, i.e., learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination.

No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final multiple-choice paper will be awarded:

QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF).

This qualification is valid for 1 year from the course assessment date.

Each learner will receive:

  • QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF) (paper certificate).
  • QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF) (PDF certificate).
  • QNUK qualification card for a wallet or purse.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to candidates in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The qualification can be delivered in other countries; however, candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
