Learning Outcomes

Learners will have a clear understanding of:

  • Recognising different types of medication they may come across in an educational setting.
  • In educational settings, school staff commonly administer medication in several ways:
  • Understanding how to store medications safely while ensuring fast access to life-saving medicines.
  • Finding the right balance between preventing medication misuse and ensuring quick access to emergency medications.
  • Consent, self-administration, covert administration, and risk assessments in an educational setting.
  • Verify that the medication label matches the person to whom the medication is to be administered, and accurately record the date and time of administration.
  • Understanding the needs and requirements for good record-keeping.
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of a bad or unexpected reaction to medication given.
  • How to dispose of medication safely and in accordance with guidelines.

Course Pre-requisites

To undertake this qualification, you need to have the following prior knowledge, skills, understanding, or qualifications outlined below.

  • Learners do not require any prior knowledge.
  • The qualification is aimed at those working in early years and educational settings, although individuals over 14 years of age may also attend this course.
  • People should have at least Level 1 literacy.

Course Duration

6 tutor-guided learning hours. (1day).

Course Tests

Multiple-choice question paper.

  • A minimum of 70% required to pass this course (14/20).

The examination will take place under strict conditions, with learners seated 1.25 metres apart and prohibited from conferring with one another during the test.

No books, personal notes, or dictionaries will be permitted.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass the multiple-choice paper, which consists of 20 questions, will receive an Ofqual-regulated QNUK Level 2 Award in Safe Administration of Medications in Educational Settings (RQF).

Each successful learner will receive:

  • QNUK Level 2 Award in Safe Administration of Medications in Educational Settings (RQF) paper certificate.
  • QNUK Level 2 Award in Safe Administration of Medications in Educational Settings (RQF) PDF certificate.
  • QNUK qualification card for wallet or purse.
