This qualification is intended for those who perform the role of first aider in the workplace.

QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) has been developed in conjunction with other AOs and supports employers in meeting their requirements under Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

First Aid at Work Re-qualification

To enrol in this first aid at work re-qualification course, your current first aid at work certification must be in date or expired by no more than 30 days.

The Resuscitation Council UK and HSE (first aid) guidelines are all up to date, and this course has Qualifications Network UK accreditation and OFQUAL regulation.

First Aid at Work Re-qualification

This comprehensive 2-day, 12-hour first aid at work re-qualification course teaches learners how to recognise and respond to a variety of common workplace injuries, conditions, and ailments.

The first aid at work re-qualification course will help you refresh your skills, knowledge, and confidence to perform high-quality CPR on an unconscious casualty who is not breathing, use an AED (defibrillator) safely and confidently, manage an unconscious person who is breathing, and monitor that person until ambulance crews arrive.

You will also revisit your skills and knowledge, and build your confidence in treating various ailments and conditions that may present themselves in your workplace.

This includes situations involving a colleague who is choking, having a seizure, being poisoned, or in medical shock, as well as individuals suffering from SCA (sudden cardiac arrest), asthma attacks, drowning, crushing injuries, life-threatening bleeds, minor burns, scalds, and various wounds.

First Aid aid at Work re-qualification learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Pre-requisites

This first aid at work re-qualification targets those aged 16 and over who can perform the duties of a workplace emergency first aider.

Learners aged 14 to 16 can pursue the qualification, but employers shouldn’t rely on them for first aid.

It is advised that students should have at least Level 2 literacy and numeracy skills, or equivalent.

The students must demonstrate workplace first-aid procedures.

This includes performing CPR on a casualty who is on the ground and thus physically able to do so.

Course Duration

12 guided learning hours (2 days).

Course Tests

Multiple-choice question paper.

  • A minimum of 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • Learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment.
  • A 100% pass mark is required.

The assessment will take place under strict examination conditions, i.e., students will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners will receive a QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) if they successfully complete all the practical course components and the final 40-question multiple-choice exam.

The certificate is valid for 3 years from the assessment date.

Each successful learner will receive:

  • QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (Certificate).
  • QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) (PDF Certificate).
  • QNUK qualification card for a wallet or purse.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The qualification can be delivered in other countries; however, learners should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
